10-Minute Content Marketing Tips: Senior Living and Pinterest

March 24, 2015

10 Minute Senior Living Content Marketing TipsWe decided to kick off a new series on our blog called..

10-Minute Content Marketing Tips

From experience, we know our senior living and home care colleagues are pressed for time. Most travel extensively and have a “To Do” list longer than their leg. But the quest for knowledge about content marketing and social media in our industry is real.

When we first started this business, few providers were on board with content marketing.

Now the drum beat is louder and the reality is…you can’t avoid it and stay competitive.

With that in mind, we will be sharing shorter, more targeted posts a few times a month.

Don’t worry… the longer meatier ones will still be coming to your Inbox too.

First up?

Yep. Pinterest!

Most of us in this office are addicted to pins on a personal level.

So we decided to tackle it on the business side.

It is a visual platform that is a bit untested by home care and senior living marketers.

Pinterest for Senior Living and Home Care Providers

To kick our new series off on a high note…

We asked Lydia Mediaville, the Social Media Manager for The Bristal, to talk with us about using Pinterest in their marketing strategy.

Here is a quick peek at how The Bristal uses Pinterest.

Shelley: How do you think Pinterest supports your overall content efforts?

Lydia: The Bristal’s content marketing goals are to:

  • Build brand awareness
  • Provide valuable information
  • Engage prospects / residents

Since Pinterest was the fastest growing social network in 2014 and women make up 80% of the users it seems natural for The Bristal to build a presence on it. Our strategy for 2015 is to expand on the boards / pins that speak to The Bristal buying persona, create appealing & optimized visuals for each blog post, and use rich pins with a thoughtful description for each blog post.

Shelley: Which of your Pinterest boards seem to attract the most followers?

Lydia: There are three that are earning the most traffic and followers. Resources For The Caregiver, This Day In History and Decorating Tips For Small Spaces.

Shelley: That’s an interesting mix! But it does speak to the questions and concerns we often hear from adult children and seniors… How can I fit everything in one small apartment at a senior living community? How can I survive caring for my dad and working?

Speaking of followers and traffic, is it too early in your efforts to determine your ROI?

Lydia: It is just a bit early. We have established our baseline and are working on optimizing our blogs and boards.

Yikes! Our 10 minutes are up! That goes pretty quickly doesn’t it?

For those of you following our blog who aren’t familiar with The Bristal, they offer independent living, assisted living, and memory care on Long Island, Westchester County, New York and Bergen County, New Jersey. They are one of a select few senior living providers that have mastered content marketing and we appreciate Lydia’s willingness to share her expertise.

And if you aren’t already, be sure to follow us on our social channels! Pinterest, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
